The existing open courtyard within the South Crescent area of the Museum was enclosed with a copper and glass wave dome roof above an open atrium, encased by the existing façade. A suspended kauri clad ‘bowl’ with a 200 seat auditorium was constructed, with a new multipurpose events centre on the top floor providing 360 degree views of the city. Exhibition space was extended by 60%. The outcome is a remarkable architectural success, and we are thankful for the privilege and opportunity. This project was completed in association with Noel Lane Architects and Salmond Reed, Heritage Architects.
