Peddlethorp was initially engaged for the refurbishment of an existing three-level accommodation building at Metlifecare’s Pinesong Village to provide a contemporary retirement living environment for residents. During the concept design stage, the optimal outcome was reviewed by the project team and the decision was made to demolish the entire building.

The resulting design proposal was for a new building featuring 48 apartments across six levels of accommodation, above a basement level.
Through extensive engagement with Metlifecare and residents, particular care was given to developing high quality unit layouts appropriately sized relative to their function.
Natural light, outlook and harbour views informed location of living spaces and bedroom areas. Terraces are larger than those in the original building’s configuration, and the addition of a semi-enclosed space adjacent to the terraces for certain apartments has further improved the indoor / outdoor living experience.
The scheme blends in with its surrounding environment in scale, materiality and overall appearance, both enhancing the living experience of the building’s occupants and representing a quality-built form within the wider Pinesong Village campus.
