The Stamford Residences development doubled the height of the existing Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland’s CBD. A new 11 storey tower was constructed to sit above the 2,300m2 floor plate of the existing structure, providing 149 quality residential apartments and penthouses, a health centre, internal pool and spa areas and plant space.

The hotel was closed for six months in 2006 for structural work to strengthen the existing building. Over this period approximately 280 rooms were upgraded and existing hospitality facilities were redeveloped. Then came the real challenge: the addition of the 11 new apartment levels, without interrupting the 5-star hotel’s operations.
