Travelodge Hotel Auckland at Wynyard Quarter is the first building constructed as part of an overall development master-planned by Peddlethorp for Infratil’s Halsey Street site. It includes 385 carparks ‘sleeved’ by a 154 room Travelodge hotel, with commercial office space, restaurants and retail on the ground floor. The site was once home to a tram maintenance facility, and the crenelated facade and industrial materials palette echo that heritage.

In all, six new buildings are proposed for the ‘Wynyard 100’ site. The thinking that has generated their aesthetics and material choices comes from our extensive research into the site history. Our design responses have been motivated in part by Auckland Council’s desire to retain and celebrate the precinct’s industrial heritage. In addition, as architects we recognise that tenants appreciate characterful office space in terms of textures, character, and stories – its inherent authenticity.
